Sanitary Waste - You and the Law
The Workplace (Health, Safety and
Welfare Regulations) 1992 Approved Code
of Practice Regulation 21 states that "In the case of water closets
used by women suitable means should be provided for the disposal of sanitary
dressings."
In addition to this, the Water Industries
Act 1991 states that no items
should be flushed that could cause a blockage within a sewer or drain.
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 places a legal obligation - Duty
of Care, upon you and your organisation to ensure that all waste produced
is managed correctly right up until its final point of disposal.
In the case of sanitary waste the following applies:
-
Your waste must only be removed by a registered carrier
-
The waste must be disposed of at a licensed landfill site or
incineration facility
-
A full audit trail of documentation must be in place and
kept for a minimum of 2 years
For Your Peace of Mind……
By choosing B.C.S (HYGIENE) to provide a sanitary disposal service,
you can be confident that your legal responsibilities are being met.
B.C.S (HYGIENE) is a registered waste carrier/broker with the Environment
Agency Anglian Region - Northern Area. Our registration number is ANL/515799/CB.
B.C.S (HYGIENE) incinerate all sanitary waste, as we consider this
has less impact on the environment. Although the waste can be disposed
of
by landfill at a cheaper price , we are opposed to this option as we
believe the true cost to the environment for future generations is
one we are not willing to contribute to.
We also provide the Duty of Care Waste Transfer Notes FREE to all of
our customers, for which some companies charge in excess of £35.00!
